students mentoring students

Project Arrow promotes increased self-esteem, stronger trust and rapport, and positive character development amongst the students of Greenfield-Central school district.

Project Arrow was designed to help participating students experience and understand the value of being an example to others in the world as they interact among themselves and with younger children.

These are just a few of the successful outcomes that Project ARROW offers to Greenfield junior and senior high school students. A collaborative program between Greenfield-Central Community School Corporation and Greenfield Central School Foundation, Project ARROW matches high school students as mentors with select students in the seventh and eighth grades. Master Mentors (adult community leaders) supervise goal-setting, skill-building and group activities in an informal, supportive meeting format.

High school students are members of the Student Leadership Academy. Through mentoring, they experience the benefits of building trust, modeling positive behaviors, and inspiring character development in younger students. Junior high participants are positively impacted and develop stronger self-esteem by modeling the behavior of the high school students and Master Mentors.

Project ARROW meetings are held at Greenfield Central Junior High School, with a tour of G-C High School as one of the last sessions. An end-of-the-year celebration brings all the Project ARROW participants together for large group activities and projects. From bowling challenges to an outdoor challenge course and other similar group activities, the students enjoy celebrating their months of working together.

Statistics, interviews and survey methods are used to evaluate the program annually and measure its effectiveness. Since its inception, Project ARROW has positively impacted more than 700 students.
